The children had a great time making new friends of their own and the Grade 10 students did a great job of cooking a BBQ for everyone. Later in the year Sacred Heart will host another day for students from Geeveston and Dover District High at Sacred Heart.

The group commenced a few weeks ago and we must thank Mr and Mrs Riley (Justen and Jeremy Ashworth’s grandparents) for volunteering to run the sessions. The children have began to plan, build and program their own lego robot. The group meets every Monday after school for 90 minutes.

The extended family of thirty was struggling to clear and farm their land after years of conflict. Unfortunately many of the children had to depart and look for work in Thailand to help support the family.

The SHCS children rode in a twelve hour bike-a-thon in wet and cold conditions to raise the valuable funds. Today the school were visited by Lydia, a local member of the Cambodian Children’s Trust, that has just returned from visiting Cambodia and the Phon family. It was a great thrill for the children to see and hear stories about how much difference their support has made to the Phon family.

With Sacred Heart’s help the family was able to:

Get land checked for mines and flattened with a dozer

Plant semi-mature fruit trees

Buy a cow and  chickens

Put in irrigation from the river to his land

Sacred Heart is very proud of their students and their commitment to live out their Josephite Spirit of  ’Never see a need without doing something about it’ (Mary MacKillop). Even more pleasing is that a number of Mr & Mrs Phon’s children have returned from Thailand to work on the family farm. Below are some of the images that Lydia took on her trip.
